PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

1. The general objective of this project is to develop an innovative and affordable knowledge based system for malignant tumour margins detection in real time, to be primarily used in small animal surgery.

Specific objectives:

1. Preliminary studies of Raman scattering on biologic samples (in vitro) considering several combinations of gold nanoparticle and host oxide matrices.

2. Elaboration and development of the experimental model (laboratory stage) NANOMARDET.

3. Set up specific Raman characterization protocols for surgical margin (in vitro and in vivo).

4 Demonstration of functionality and utility of the experimental model of the nanostructure-based system for real time detection of malign tumour margins with associated surgical protocols (in vitro and in vivo).
